Google Delays Page Experience Update Rollout

After nearly a year of speculation around Google’s May 2020 algorithm updated dubbed the Page Experience Update, Google announced it will delay the rollout of the update for another month until June. In an announcement, Google Developers said that the Page Experience Update will begin to take effect in mid-June 2021 and take its full role starting at the end of August.

Google says, “You can think of it as if you’re adding a flavoring to a food you’re preparing. Rather than add the flavor all at once into the mix, we’ll be slowly adding it all over this time period.”

Google says they hope the adjusted schedule will help everyone better prepare for the update. And the gradual rollout will allow them to monitor for unexpected or unintended issues.

“While this update is designed to highlight pages that offer great user experiences, page experience remains one of the many factors our systems take into account. Given this, sites generally should not expect drastic changes.”

The Page Experience Update covers several signals and features. But all center around improving the user experience on a webpage. It includes three Core Web Vitals metrics: LCP, FID, and CLS.

In their announcement, Google also mentions the Page Experience Report now available within Search Console. It provides important metrics and signals that shows how a website performs. It combines Core Web Vitals with things like pagespeed, HTTPS, and mobile friendliness, among other things.
